The Seamen’ Society for Children and Families is the oldest operating charitable organization on Staten Island for over 150 years. It offers such valuable services to the community as domestic violence intervention, child foster care and other child care services. When the Seamen’s Society for Children & Families purchased the property at 50 Bay Street, it awarded Daggart Construction to perform their major renovation plus plus addition.

The project consisted of a complete gutting of four floors plus basement and adding an additional fifth floor consisting of 9,000 sq. ft bringing the total square footage to approximately over 50,000 sq. ft. for this historic building The additional fifth floor roof consists of a copper bow roof to give the building character. The original facade was preserved and the space was completely modernized to accommodate over 200 new office workers. We also constructed a floor to ceiling glass curtain wall that provides a spectacular view of the New York Harbor and the newly constructed One World Trade Center.

The close proximity of the Staten Island Ferry to 50 Bay Street made this project more challenging than others. We were only allowed to use the necessary cranes at off peak hours. The New York Chamber of Commerce awarded Daggart Construction Corporation an award for this project.
